After months of excruciating pains, palpitations, breathing difficulties and night sweats, I began to notice loss of energy during the day and falling asleep at odd times. I also noticed remarkable enlargements in my neck and jaw areas, which made me, look very robust and plump. These occurrences coincided with my yearly routine and I promptly made these complaints to the doctor. I was referred to the hospital where, a diagnosis of Non Hodgkin’s lymphoma was confirmed. My level of physical activity had become too sedentary for my physical health. Through the lymph nodes, it can spread to other organs. Lymphoma typically spread to the liver, the brain and the bones where symptoms appear as headaches, night sweats, fatigue, nausea, seizures, vomiting and pain. The difficulty and delay in diagnosing lymphoma, the ambiguity of the symptoms and the lack of early detection mean that for many people, a diagnosis is a death sentence. Non- Hodgkin’s lymphoma (NHL) is the most common cancer of the lymphatic system according to the lymphoma research foundation’.
